A dream trip to Japan opened this 12-year-old’s eyes to the world at large.
So what did you do the summer before eighth grade?
If you’re Sara Dodson, you went on the two-week trip to Japan you always dreamed about.
Show-and-tell just got a whole lot more interesting!
Sara, daughter of previous Travel Tales guest Pilar Alessandra and my longtime comedian/writer pal Pat Francis, has been fascinated by the Land Of the Rising Sun for as long as she can remember.
Particularly appealing to Sara was Japan’s history, language, and it’s unique pop culture: music, anime, films, and of course, Pokemon.
With her adventurous grandmother in tow, Sara ventured through Tokyo, Kyoto, and the foothills of Mt. Fuji, enjoying an experience some wait an entire lifetime to have, and many never get to do at all.
Most importantly, the trip was her first foray out of the country, and sparked a fire inside her to see all she can of the world beyond her L.A. home. Another Traveler is awakened! Welcome aboard, Sara.
Now if we can only get her to like sushi!
Sara is also a talented young photographer, and hopes to make it her life’s work. To see some of her photos, click on the link below.
