For a guy from one of the “Low Countries,” Ricardo Kaljouw sure loves to get high.
No, we’re not talking about Ricardo indulging in a bit of Amsterdam’s infamous coffee house products. This particular Dutchman gets his buzz at high altitudes.
While serving in The Netherlands navy, Ricardo found himself on break in Kenya on a dream safari. One look at the snowy peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro instantly inspired him to climb a mountain for the first time.
Once Ricardo conquered Africa’s highest peak, he had a new life goal: summit the highest volcanic peak on each of the seven continents.
He’s been lost amid a blizzard high atop the Andes, dodged rumored headhunting tribes in Papua New Guinea, and battled the elements on peaks in Mexico, Russia, and yes, Antarctica.
It’s a pleasure to meet and hear Travel Tales from a true adventurer. You can read more about Ricardo’s feats when his memoir, A Million Steps On Lava, drops later this year.
But until then, listen to his story right here!
