What do Bigfoot, Chernobyl, Flat-Earthers, and hiking trails in Lebanon have in common?
They’ve all been subjects in various travel books written by British comedian Dom Joly, who transitioned from a long career in TV to travel author.
A sense of curiosity and adventure came early for Dom, who grew up in war-torn Beirut, Lebanon before attending English boarding school at twelve.
Straddling genteel English country life with the chaos of Beirut gave Dom a unique worldly perspective. So much so he was hired soon after graduating university as a diplomat in the newly independent Czech Republic.
His diplomatic life was short-lived, but he soon found his voice in TV, first discussing politics, but slowly transitioning into comedy and reality TV.
While Dom has hosted travel shows for television, he felt his unique take on travel was best suited to the written word.
Dom’s fifth travel book, The Conspiracy Tourist, finds him traveling worldwide to meet true believers of the most extreme, and some would say dangerous, conspiracy theories sweeping the globe.
Along the way, Dom gains a new perspective on these theories and the people behind them.
It was a pleasure to meet a bona fide UK celebrity! And that’s no conspiracy! Thanks, Dom!
