A whirlwind press tour through Bangkok and beyond combines yours truly with a travel writer and a Muay Thai boxer.
I was lucky enough to be sent on a press tour to Thailand last month by former Travel Tales guest and JetSetExtra.com honcho Mary Anne Been. Also on the tour were Bertha Villalobos, a journalist from Mexico City, and Bradley Dobler, a martial arts student and practitioner from the Los Angeles area.
We became fast friends during the busy week we spent seeing the sights of Thailand’s Bankgkok and Kanchanaburi regions.
The three of us also got physical by training at a Muay Thai boxing camp and a traditional Thai swordfighting academy. The climax of the trip was taking part in a Wai Kru ceremony in the ancient capital of Ayutthaya, where Muay Thai students from around the world honor the martial art, it’s history and their teachers.
While Bertha and I let Bradley do the bulk of the kickboxing, we still managed to work up a sweat. The spicy food and humidity helped as well.
As always, travel is a great way to make new friends, and I got Bertha and Bradley to chat with me on the flight home before we went our separate ways. Hopefully we will see each other again soon, but until then, I hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as I did.
Big thanks to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mary Anne Been, and all the folks at Jet Set Extra!
