A photographer/travel writer splits his time between his native England and his adopted home of Brazil.
Kidnapped and staring down the barrel of a gun in a Brazilian rain forest, Alex Robinson knew he was far from home.
Sure, he had strayed a bit from the path laid out for him, but kidnapping victim was not the life experience he was looking for. Luckily, he escaped and lived to tell another Travel Tale.
Alex had a classic proper English upbringing: boarding school, Cambridge, rugby on the lawn, etc. But he soon realized the world was a much bigger place, and he was bound and determined to experience it.
His first big trip abroad was at 17, and he didn’t take the easy route, living for three months in southern India.
Despite the culture shock (and dysentery) Alex was hooked on foreign lands.
When he met the Brazilian woman in a London pub who would become his wife, Alex’s life took another left turn. He now splits his time between London and Sao Paulo, and has written and photographed not only Brazil but extensively throughout South and Central America for his own books as well as other publications.
I had the pleasure of meeting Alex on the Legends of Croatia tour I took in June, 2014, where this episode was recorded. Alex has plenty of great Travel Tales – give him a listen!
