“Top o’ the world, Ma!”
I like to think Alex Harz shouted that famous phrase when he stood on the peak of Mt. Everest, but alas, he did not.
What he did do on top of the world’s highest mountain was culminate an adventure that took him years to plan, then film in not only standard 2D video, but in virtual reality as well.
It was from this labor of love that Alex is celebrating the release of his two documentaries: “The Quest: Everest” and “The Quest Everest: VR.”
In our chat, the Colorado-based filmmaker describes his film’s long journey from concept to reality: the years of planning, multiple trips to Nepal, the horrendous weather and travel complications, the fundraising, and of course, the physical challenges and hardships that are quite literally, a matter of life and death.
And no, he didn’t get frostbite. But yes, he did see the bodies of dead climbers from years past still frozen on the mountainside.
Listen to this most epic of Travel Tales from a man who not only hiked to the world’s highest peak, but put it up on screen and in virtual reality for the rest of the world to experience with him.
