A Gulf War veteran gave up the 9-to-5 world back in the states to make a new life in Roatan, Honduras.
A lot of people say they’re going to chuck it all and move to a tropical island, but very few have the stones to do it.
Jason McAnear possesses those stones.
The ex-Marine left his career and cold weather back in Boise, ID, and moved to the Caribbean island of Roatan, Honduras. Six months later he sent for his girlfriend, Suz, and the two of them are working toward opening a scuba/snorkel business of their own.
I met Jason and Suz at their night jobs behind the bar at the C-Level restaurant off of Roatan’s main street, and they took care of me all week. Jason was nice enough to sit down for an interview on my last morning in town, and couldn’t have been nicer.
He describes the adjustment to island life: the slow pace, the local people, and oh yeah, the time he and Suz escaped gun-wielding attackers.
That last one was merely a blip on the island radar he assured me, and you can hear it all here. You can find Jason on Facebook and watch his and Suz’s Youtube videos.
Thanks, Jason! Save that reef for me!
