The winemaker welcomed Travel Tales to Croatia with open arms – and open bottles.
Bruno Trapan has been selling wines from his family’s eponymous vineyard in Croatia since the mid-’90’s.
Located on the outskirts of the city of Pula on the southern tip of the Istria region, Trapan Winery cultivates some premium grapes.
But along with copious amounts of great wine and tremendous food, Bruno and his family serve up a generous dose of hospitality.
I met Bruno through my friend(and previous Travel Tales guest) Ashley Colburn, who recommended Bruno as a good person to meet if I was ever in Pula. Was he ever!
Though we never met before and only chatted via text message, Bruno picked me up from the bus station, took me to a terrific lunch at his friend’s restaurant, and then straight to his winery. We then proceeded to the tasting room: bottles were opened, customers came and went, and somewhere along the course of a few hours, a podcast was recorded.
I apologize for any slurring you may hear- it’s one of the risks of recording in a winery.
It was joy to meet Bruno, his family, and his wonderful friends. If you’re ever in Istria, do yourself a favor and drop by the Trapan Winery. Be sure to take a few bottles home with you, and tell them Mike sent you!
Cheers, Bruno!
