August 5, 2014 Laura Kiniry So You Wanna Be A Travel Writer?
Listen Now

Interested in traveling the world and getting paid for it? A professional writer tells how she made that dream a reality.

When most people imagine the life of a professional travel writer, they picture sitting under a palm tree at a five-star resort, daquiri in one hand and note pad in the other. Truth is often far from fiction, however.

For Laura Kiniry, her first paid foray into the world of travel writing was a 500-page guide book on her home state of New Jersey.

From that auspicious debut, Laura’s world only grew bigger. Her work has taken her to Japan, South America, and throughout Europe, and her stories have been featured in numerous magazines, such as Oprah, American Way, Popular Mechanics and many more.

Laura put herself through college by waiting tables, and kept her dream of being a professional writer in her sights.

Laura gave us her personal story about how she got started in the travel writing business. And she was nice to enough to tell it while riding in the back of a van!

Thanks, Laura!
